Welcome at the Department Dutch as a Second Language!

 

This is the application form for the course Basic Dutch on Campus for prospective / exchange / regular VU students.
If you are a 'Semester in Amsterdam' student please contact the International Office of the VU.

The course is for beginners and will start in September 2026. 
Course duration: 8 September - 15 December 2026, including 15 language classes on a Tuesday and 3 culture classes on a Wednesday plus a final test.
There is also the option to take part in an additional revision class and the regular A1 exam in January 2027. This regular test is only required if you want to continue with the regular Dutch courses after Basic Dutch on Campus..

Choose course
The course is only accessible for enrolled VU students and only for beginners.
You cannot pay for the course with a DUO loan.

You will find options for shorter courses (8 weeks), either in the evening or on a Saturday.
You can also apply as an advanced learner, if you have a certified level  A1 or higher in reading, writing, listening and speaking (all 4 proficiencies!)
Please be aware that you have to do a mandatory, free of charge, central intake if you apply as advanced learner.
Placement is not guaranteed after an intake for advanced learners.
If you use the Basic Dutch on Campus application form for a different course we will NOT process your application.

You cannot pay for this course with a DUO loan for studying in the Netherlands. If it is a DUO loan for civic integration, please contact the VU NT2 Office directly. You are then required to take part in the intensive daytime courses. However, a daytime course may interfer with your studies.
 
If you are not an enrolled or prospective VU student (Bachelor/Master), we will not be able to process your application.

Prospective students who did not yet receive their student card may upload their Admission Letter.

If you don't know the exact date, please fill out the first of the month or January 1st.
ERK = Common European Framework of Reference. It describes what you must be able to show that you mastered the language at a certain level. A1 is the lowest level, C2 is the level of 'near native speaker' with academic level.
If someone else is paying for you, please mention name, phonenumber and e-mail address of the person/company who is going to pay!
