Welcome at the Department Dutch as a Second Language!
This is the application form for the course Basic Dutch on Campus for prospective / exchange / regular VU students, including 'Semester in Amsterdam'.
The course is for beginners and will start in September 2025 .
If you are interested in this 16 week course please continue with your application.
If you are NOT a VU student or NOT a beginner but:
1) an external applicant, a VU PhD student or a VU employee, you cannot apply for this course.
You can apply for a courses Dutch for Work and Study or Everyday Dutch on Saturday.
2) an advanced learner (A1 and above), please have a look at Dutch for Work and Study / Nederlands voor werk en studie.

The course is only accessible for enrolled VU students and only for beginners.
You cannot pay for the course with a DUO loan.

You will find options for shorter courses (8 weeks), either in the evening or on a Saturday.
You can also apply as an advanced learner, if you have a certified level A1 or higher in reading, writing, listening and speaking (all 4 proficiencies!)
Please be aware that you have to do a mandatory, free of charge, central intake if you apply as advanced learner.
Placement is not guaranteed after an intake for advanced learners.

Who is going to pay the course fees? *
If you have a loan from DUO, you can not do this course. If it is a DUO loan for civic integration, please contact the VU NT2 Office directly. You are then required to take part in the intensive daytime courses. However, a daytime course may interfer with your studies.
